I was truly amazed by the wonderful meal at Matsukawa. From start to finish, you see all the dishes being prepared with precision. Chef Matsukawa was able to showcase new dimensions of the ingredients, that are commonly found in other kaiseki restaurants by either adding or changing to these foundamental elements of the dishes. Unlike other places I have tried such as Kojyu or Ishikawa where there were highs and lows during the meal, the whole experience at Matsukawa was very consistent throughout without any disappointment. The meal (due to matsutake) ended up to be around $40000 yen, slightly more expensive than Kojyu or Ishikawa, but consider the number of courses, the variety and quality of the ingredients, and most importantly, the high level of execution, I think this meal truly matched to the hype and value. I will be back!
