Vegan kaiseki dinner @kajitsu Manhattan. It was exquisitely plated. Kaiseki food is almost like temple food, there is ritual and beauty as well as texture and taste. We were asked to choose our own tea cup from a tray of hand thrown pottery vessels. We were presented with a basket ware tray of all the ingredients used in the meal (which I turned into a Masterchef style 'guess the ingredient' quiz). The staff only cleared the table one plate at a time. We had a spring inspired menu: the cherry blossom here symbolises that- I so want to visit Japan for the Sakura season. I also tasted fiddlehead ferns for the first time. #food #travel #NewYork #restaurants #japanesefood #vegan #kaiseki #spiritual
