Kikunoi is a three star Michelin restaurant in Kyoto that is know for kaiseki cuisine. I went to their "lesser" two star Michelin restaurant called Roan Kikunoi. I'm no foodie but I can tell you that the food was as colourful as the taste. Now I understand a little bit of what they mean by umami. It's not just one flavour. In a way it plays with it. It is a journey with a theme - in this case spring. I think most of the dishes were successful in that. But it was more successful in stirring up some odd emotions like those food animes - seriously.
